Slow Computer
If you believe your computer is experience slow or degraded performance please perform the following actions to see if the issue is resolved before contacting the help desk.
Computer Restart
What Restart Does
Restart, in contrast, actually does shut down all of the computer's processes. That means you get a totally clean start when the computer boots up again, though it takes longer to get everything running.
"Restart should be used when installing updates/software and to resolve any errors" Some software installations and updates actually require you to use Restart to finish the process. If your computer has frozen or is giving off some other error, you should use Restart rather than Shut Down, even though it may seem to you that Shut Down would be a more complete option.
IF A COMPUTER RESTART DOES NOT WORK PERFORM A POWER FLUSH
Power Flush
- Shut down your computer
- Remove the power cord for about 30-60 seconds
- Hold onto the power button in the front chassis for about 10 seconds.
- Plug the computer back in and fire it up
- Once you get to the Ctrl-Alt-Del screen, do a clean restart of the computer
